How long have you been doing CrossFit? (Since Month, Year): March 2023

How did you first discover CrossFit and what made you decide to start?

I was bored with one-on-one personal training. I had also been running for years and had yet to see the physical results I was looking for. I wanted to try something new, so my friend Lisa told me about the gym.

Tell us about your fitness/sports background:

As a child, I was always active, doing dance and running track. As an adult, I mainly ran 5Ks and half marathons with some light weight training to keep the weight off.

What sorts of positive changes (mental, physical, emotional) have you noticed in your life since getting involved at No Excuses?

I’ve noticed significant gains in strength, endurance, and overall fitness, with higher energy levels and improved muscle tone. On the mental side, when things get stressful, I look forward to the midday 12:30 pm class as a perfect reset. It helps me take a break, clear my head, and reduce stress. Being part of the No Excuses community has had a positive impact on my well-being. The support and camaraderie keep me motivated and positive, even on tough days.

Who or what keeps you coming back and motivated?

It’s the group classes. Attending group classes with such a supportive and energetic group keeps me motivated. The encouragement that I get from everyone inspires me to keep coming back.

In what other ways do you use your fitness?

I use my fitness to manage my health and maintain overall wellness. Staying active helps me stay on top of my well-being and ensures I’m taking care of myself.

Name one goal you would like to achieve in the next year (doesn’t have to be CrossFit related, but it can be)

I would love to learn Olympic Lifting techniques.

Tell us about your hobbies and interests outside of the gym:

Outside of the gym, I’m busy taking care of my two teenage boys, who are both in high school. They’re actively involved in the marching band so I’m at all of the high school football games. One plays soccer while the other plays basketball. My boys keep me on my toes.

What advice do you have for someone just starting CrossFit or is on the fence about starting?

Be patient with yourself. Start with the basics and focus on building a strong foundation. Everyone progresses at their own pace, so don’t compare yourself to others. Most importantly, listen to your body and enjoy the journey.

What do you love most about No Excuses?

The community and support from my fellow athletes. The support from the coaches, and the variety of the workouts keep things interesting.
