From “Fat Kid” to Fitness Lover: Jeremy’s CrossFit Transformation

Jeremy’s journey into CrossFit began with a nudge from a personal trainer and a glimpse of the CrossFit Games on TV. “I used to work out with a personal trainer who got his Level 1 in the Army,” Jeremy recalls. “He told me about CrossFit, and I saw the CrossFit Games on TV. After a little research, I knew a CrossFit box was the next step for me.” A quick search led him to No Excuses, where his fitness adventure truly began. “Coming in on that Saturday was the best fitness decision I’ve ever made.”

Two Years of Dedication and Growth

Starting his CrossFit journey on his birthday in 2012, Jeremy has been a dedicated member for 12 years. His commitment to fitness and health has transformed not only his body but also his lifestyle. “I spent 33 years of my life as a fat kid. Growing up, I was a band geek. There was nothing athletic in my life, ever,” Jeremy shares. His introduction to CrossFit quickly made him realize that exercise alone wasn’t enough. “I realized there was more to it than just showing up at the gym,” he admits.

The Power of Nutrition and Education

Jeremy’s path to better health took a significant turn with his discovery of the Paleo diet, inspired by Robb Wolf’s “The Paleo Solution.” “I totally geeked out on his science discussion. It just made sense to me,” Jeremy explains. This new understanding of nutrition, combined with his CrossFit training, led to dramatic changes in his body composition and overall health. “I had never been able to change my body composition so radically.”

Motivated by his transformation, Jeremy pursued a certification in nutrition coaching from Precision Nutrition, blending his passion for fitness with a desire to help others. “I love the Paleo diet, but I also realize that it doesn’t work in all situations. I wanted to get formal credentials to begin helping others with their nutrition and training.”

Achievements and Aspirations

Jeremy has reached significant milestones in his CrossFit journey, such as snatching 135 pounds and clean & jerking his body weight. He attributes these achievements to the guidance and support of Coach Chris Fischer. Despite these successes, Jeremy continues to set new goals, including a bodyweight snatch and completing Fran in under five minutes—a workout he admits to hating.

Advice for New Members

For those new to CrossFit, Jeremy emphasizes the importance of consistency and documentation. “Set your training schedule and stick to it. Be sure to include rest days but don’t skip a WOD because it looks hard. Also, be diligent about journaling your workouts. New members that journal stick with it and get the best results!”

Balancing Life and Hobbies

Outside of CrossFit, Jeremy enjoys writing software, playing golf, and indulging in video games whenever he can find the time. His love for learning and continuous improvement extends beyond the gym, reflecting his approach to both fitness and life.
