How long have you been doing CrossFit? July 2016

How did you first discover CrossFit and what made you decide to start?:

Some friends from a baseball team told me about it. I have worked out most of my life, but it has always been for athletics or preparing for something. After college I found it difficult to stay consistent. I joined because I love the idea of workouts being measured and competing against each other. I’ve never looked back. Crossift has healthly elements of fun, competition, and measurement that keeps you motivated to always improving.

Tell us about your fitness/sports background:

I played baseball and football in highschool. I went on to play baseball in college.

What sorts of positive changes (mental, physical, emotional) have you noticed in your life since getting involved at No Excuses?:

I’ve made life-long friends at No Excuses. I’ve had the opportunity to meet a lot of people at No Excuses since I go to so many different class times. It has been wonderful to get to know so many wonderful people, some of which my kids have become good friends with their kids.

Who or what keeps you coming back and motivated?

The friends I’ve made keep me motivated. I also love the fun workouts. Community, competition, and fun is what keeps me motivated to go workout.

In what other ways do you use your fitness?

My two boys and wife keep me busy. Whether it’s spending 3 hours at the baseball field or working on our new project around our house — I’m always active.

Please share with us a favorite CrossFit or No Excuses moment.

Hugo this year. It wasn’t looking like our team was going to make the podium, but we absolutely blasted the last workout. We somehow just found an extra gear as team.

Name one goal you would like to achieve in the next year (doesn’t have to be CrossFit related, but it can be)

Diet. I live a very busy life with 3 kids and demanding work, so my food choices are many time last minute and not healthy. I would love to improve my diet over the next year.

Tell us about your hobbies and interests outside of the gym:

Baseball, woodworking, data analysis

What advice do you have for someone just starting CrossFit or is on the fence about starting?

On the fence — do it. Crossfit can sometimes be intimidating, but it’s for everyone. Anyone can do the workouts — there’s always a scale to get the same stimulus. For those that have just started, focus on form. Do the movements correctly and safely before going heavy. The competitive nature in us is tempting to do workouts at “Rx” or lift heavier than our competitive buddy. Take it slow. Focus on form. Crossfit is about functional fitness and we’re not that functional when injured 🙂

What do you love most about No Excuses? The people.
