Seven place in the top 100 in the Southeast in the Open

The CrossFit Open came to an end last week and after five weeks of workouts, No Excuses CrossFit had several athletes near the top of the Southeast leaderboard.

As a gym, No Excuses CrossFit finished the Open ranked No. 128 in the Southeast out of 259 gyms. No Excuses’ best workout as a gym was was 18.2A with with a 1-rep max clean. The gym had 100 people sign-up for the Open, which is a gym record that surpasses 91 people last year and 78 and 66 the previous years.

No Excuses had seven athletes place in the top 100 in the Southeast in their respective division.

In his first year in the master’s division, Mathew Shamloo made his presence felt with a 41st place finish in the Southeast in the men’s 35-39 division.

Mike Matthes was 59th in the Southeast in the men’s 40-44 division, while Glen Wilkins was 82nd in the 45-49 division.

Greg Hayes, who has competed in every CrossFit Open since it started in 2011, placed 56th in the Southeast in the 55-59 division.

Riley Lundin placed 61st in the Southeast in the girls 16-17 division, and Barbara Parsons placed in the top 100 for the second year in a row. Parsons was 83rd in the 60+ division. Also making an appearance in the top 100 in the 60+ was Joan Howard with a 59th-place finish.

JT Odom and Mathew Shamloo tied for No Excuses CrossFit’s top finisher in the Open. JT, who tied for first last year in the gym, was 568th in the Southeast this year.

No Excuses CrossFit’s Spirit of the Open recipients were Amy Hood, Michelle Stovall, Emily Stalling, Nicole Wilkins and Adam Reese. Each week one athlete was recognized for embodying the spirit of the sport of CrossFit.

As a gym, we split the CrossFit Open participants into four teams. Each person earned points for their team in a variety ways. From participating in each week’s theme and posting on social media to making posters for their team to donating food for the North Gwinnett Co-Op.

Space Monkey Mafia was the Friday Night Throwdown champion with 6,230 points. Hip Hop Bunnyz (2,895) was second followed by Rowdy Roosters (1,974) and Tenacious Turtles (1,823).
