Each year at the CrossFit Games, they honor someone with the Spirit of the Games award. This honor goes to the ‘athlete who embodies the spirit of the sport.’

Each week during Friday Night Throwdown, No Excuses CrossFit will recognize a member it feels represented the Spirit of the Games. This week’s honor goes to ….

Joan Howard almost didn’t sign up for the Open this year. However, some No Excuses CrossFit members talked her into it and she’s posted some impressive scores this year. During 19.3, Joan was one of the few athletes to make it to the fourth part of the workout. She was 50 feet of bear crawls away from finishing the grueling workout in the women’s 55-plus scaled division.

“She almost didn’t sign up because she felt she didn’t haver her cheer squad, but Angela and Barbara told her she couldn’t miss it!,” No Excuses CrossFit coach Yessica Rojas said. “And now she is going all for it! Very proud she is rocking it!!!”
