In February 2016, Abram decided to make a change for himself and his family. After years of hearing about CrossFit from a relative who opened a box in Oceanside, CA, he finally took the leap and stopped by No Excuses CrossFit. For Abram, the motivation was simple: “I wanted to be healthy and provide a good example for my kids.”
From Wrestling to CrossFit
Abram’s fitness background includes wrestling in high school and on a club team in college. He dabbled in weightlifting off and on, but for about 10 years before CrossFit, he wasn’t doing much physically. It wasn’t long before CrossFit rekindled his athletic drive.
Positive Changes, Inside and Out
Since joining No Excuses, Abram has noticed remarkable changes in his life. “More energy, and I am less grumpy!” he shared. But it’s not just his mental and emotional state that’s improved—physically, Abram is stronger than ever. “I’ve also gained back a lot of my flexibility, which is something I never thought I’d get back after wrestling,” he explained.
Staying Motivated
For Abram, maintaining a good example of physical health for his kids is one of the key motivators that keeps him coming back to the gym. He also admits, “I like to lift heavy stuff!” That passion for strength and fitness drives him to continually improve and push his limits.
Fitness in Everyday Life
CrossFit hasn’t just transformed Abram inside the gym; it’s also enhanced how he plays and engages in his everyday life. “When I have time to play, I can play harder now!” Abram said. Whether it’s camping, boating, or building things with his kids, his fitness journey allows him to enjoy life’s physical challenges to the fullest.
Aiming for New Heights
Looking ahead, Abram has some ambitious goals for the next year. “I intend to snatch 225 lbs. and clean 305 lbs.,” he shared confidently. His drive to improve and reach new milestones is a testament to his dedication to the sport and to his personal growth.
Advice for Newcomers
Abram’s advice to anyone thinking about starting CrossFit? “The rewards are well worth the effort.” Whether you’re new to fitness or have years of experience, Abram emphasizes that the physical and mental gains are undeniable once you commit.
The Community at No Excuses
When it comes to what he loves most about No Excuses, Abram reflected on the unique camaraderie he’s found in the gym. “Physical and mental exhaustion is the great equalizer and brings out the true nature of one’s character. From what I have experienced, this gym is full of good people.”
