How long have you been doing CrossFit? November 2023
How did you first discover CrossFit and what made you decide to start?
I had been lifting on my own for last couple of years and realized if I was going to lift heavy I needed some guidance. I also had committed to my first Spartan race and wanted to learn how to climb a rope.
Tell us about your fitness/sports background:
I’ve had a lifelong passion for sports and fitness, starting with competitive fast-pitch softball and swimming, which I pursued throughout my school years and into college. In recent years, I have developed a personal fitness routine that includes yoga, running, and weight lifting. For the past 2 years, I have also trained regularly for obstacle course races like Tough Mudder and Spartan, which keep me connected with my work friends across the country and holds all of us accountable for our fitness goals year-round.
What sorts of positive changes (mental, physical, emotional) have you noticed in your life since getting involved at No Excuses?
Since starting I have noticed incredible positive changes in my life. Physically, I have become much stronger, and I love seeing the improvements in my body. I really enjoy starting my day with CrossFit; it sets a positive tone for the rest of my day. Each session leaves me feeling accomplished and ready to take on whatever challenges come my way. Exercise is essential for my mental health, as it helps me manage stress and boosts my overall well-being.
Who or what keeps you coming back and motivated?
My motivation comes from within. I love myself and I want to age well. With CF I enjoy the challenges and variety of the workouts, tracking my progress, and the positive impact on my mental health. I also really appreciate the 6am crew; I look forward to the joke of the day, no matter how bad it is. A huge shout out to Christine for being an amazing coach and her patience with all that personality so early in the morning!
In what other ways do you use your fitness?
I leverage my fitness routine in my everyday life. My fitness routine gives me increased energy, which helps me stay focused and productive throughout the day. It helps me manage stress and improves my overall mental health. I feel confident in my body and who I am, and that confidence attracts so many positive things into my life.
Please share with us a favorite CrossFit or No Excuses moment.
Learning to climb a rope and then getting good at climbing a rope.
Name one goal you would like to achieve in the next year (doesn’t have to be CrossFit related, but it can be)
2025 – the year of the pull up!
Tell us about your hobbies and interests outside of the gym:
I love soaking up the sun while hiking in the mountains, lounging at the beach, or floating down a river…just get me outside! Obstacle course races are a blast, whether I am tackling them solo or with friends. I enjoy traveling and love going on a road trip with my dog, good friends, and a great playlist. I am a music enthusiast, always up for a live show. I collect vinyl records and quirky kitschy art from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, so you can find me on the hunt at thrift stores or estate sales. When I’m at home, I relax by building Lego sets, watching trashy Bravo TV, or diving into a good book.
What advice do you have for someone just starting CrossFit or is on the fence about starting?
Focus on your form for safety, and set realistic goals for yourself. Celebrate your wins, no matter how small, to stay motivated. Remember that commitment and consistency are key to seeing results. Most importantly, avoid comparing yourself or your journey to others. Each of us is on our own path. We are all here to support one another, no matter where we are in our fitness journey.
What do you love most about No Excuses?
I know this sounds cliche, but I love the people. It really is a community and I feel inspired and encouraged daily by this group.
