A few days before the school year started, I was at Level Creek Elementary for Open House. No Excuses CrossFit had a booth set up in the cafeteria alongside other local businesses. There were tables for music lessons, chess clubs, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts—and ours, representing CrossFit Kids.
As families passed by, I heard the same comment over and over from parents:
“My child really needs this. They’ve been on a screen all summer.”
That’s a common story. Summer is full of freedom, family trips, sleepovers, and late nights—but it often comes at the expense of movement. Kids get out of their rhythm, and so do parents.
That’s why Back to School is such a great opportunity—not just for kids, but for adults too.
For the Kids: Strength, Confidence, and Focus
We often think of CrossFit as an adult program, but CrossFit Kids is designed to help children build age-appropriate strength, coordination, and confidence. It’s not about lifting heavy weights or pushing to exhaustion. It’s about learning to move well, having fun, and building habits that support their mental and physical health.
We’ve seen kids go from shy and unsure to confident and energized in just a few weeks. That confidence carries over into the classroom—better posture, more focus, and even improved behavior. When kids move more, they tend to sleep better, handle stress more easily, and perform better in school.
Whether it’s through structured workouts like CrossFit Kids, organized sports, or just playing outside, movement is essential for growing minds and bodies.
For the Parents: Reclaim Your Routine
The school year also brings something many parents secretly crave: structure.
When summer ends, routines return. You know when the kids are in school. You know when practices, pick-ups, and dinners happen. And that makes it easier to plan your time again.
For many of our members at No Excuses CrossFit, August and September mark their return to regular workouts after the chaos of summer. They’re ready to refocus on their health—not just for themselves, but for their families.
Because when parents take care of themselves, everyone benefits.
You have more energy to keep up with your kids. You set a strong example for what it means to live a healthy life. And you build the mental clarity and stress resilience that family life demands.
Start Small, Stay Consistent
If summer knocked you off course, don’t try to “make up” for lost time. Start with 2–3 workouts a week. Get some walks in. Choose real, whole foods. Focus on small wins and rebuilding momentum.
And if your child needs help getting active, consider a structured program like CrossFit Kids. It’s a fun and effective way to build strength, self-esteem, and a love for movement.
Back to school isn’t just for the kids. It’s a fresh start for the whole family.
