Lori’s CrossFit story began back in September of 2012, when a friend from her workplace at NEGA Medical Center first introduced her to the idea. Little did she know then that this introduction would lead her to a fitness journey filled with challenges, personal growth, and a supportive community that would become a second home.
Motivation through Variety and Community
When asked what keeps her motivated after more than a decade of CrossFit, Lori doesn’t hesitate: “The challenge, the variety, the coaches, and all the awesome members.” It’s the constant variation in workouts and the encouragement of her peers that have kept her coming back day after day. Lori admits she thrives on the combination of physical challenge and the camaraderie that No Excuses CrossFit offers. It’s not just about fitness—it’s about community.
Athletic Background and Evolving Fitness Goals
Before discovering CrossFit, Lori was no stranger to physical activity. “I’ve done moderate distance running—10K to half marathon—and I am a black belt in Taekwondo,” she shares. Despite her already impressive athletic background, CrossFit opened up a whole new world of fitness challenges for her. Through her training at No Excuses CrossFit, Lori found herself focusing on healthier eating habits, especially working on “getting a higher percentage of protein in my diet.”
Surpassing Expectations: From Double Unders to Rope Climbs
One of the standout moments of Lori’s CrossFit journey was achieving something she once thought impossible: “Double unders!” she says proudly. While she can currently string together two or three in a row, she’s determined to keep progressing. However, her biggest accomplishment to date? “Climbing the rope!” she exclaims, a task she once never imagined herself being able to do.
Inspired by Strong Female Athletes
Lori finds constant motivation not only from the coaches but also from the impressive feats of strength she witnesses from fellow female members at the gym. “Seeing the upper body strength in some of our female members keeps me motivated,” she says, especially since upper body strength has been one of her own personal challenges. Her current goal? “A pull-up!!” It’s something she’s striving towards, with the encouragement and guidance of the coaching staff.
Life Outside the Gym: A Balance of Fitness and Fun
When she’s not crushing workouts at No Excuses CrossFit, Lori enjoys keeping busy with a variety of hobbies, including Taekwondo, hiking, and volunteering at the local animal shelter. Her balanced approach to life—staying active, helping others, and spending time in nature—reflects the holistic way in which CrossFit has positively impacted her overall lifestyle.
Advice for New Members: Stay Consistent!
For those just starting out in CrossFit or considering giving it a try, Lori has simple yet powerful advice: “Keep coming back!! It works if you work!!” She knows firsthand the benefits of consistency and the importance of pushing through the challenges, trusting that the results will come.
Gratitude for the No Excuses Community
Lori closes with a heartfelt message to the coaches and members who have been part of her CrossFit journey. “I am forever grateful to all the coaches for their patience with me. I love our gym and hope to be a member for many years to come. Thanks for everything y’all do!”
Lori’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance, community, and personal growth. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or new to fitness, her journey shows that with determination, support, and the right environment, there’s no limit to what you can achieve at No Excuses CrossFit.
