Back in June 2018, Robbie walked into No Excuses CrossFit for the first time. Inspired by a familiar face, he shared, “Brandon and I went to middle and high school together. I saw him on Facebook one day with another friend from school after they worked out at No Excuses. I looked up the gym and it was literally 10 minutes down the road. I stopped by shortly after and signed up.”
From Football to CrossFit
Robbie’s fitness journey started young, playing football in elementary school and running track in high school, where he was a pole vaulter. However, injuries were a part of the story, too. “I dislocated my shoulder in a high school football game and have had three shoulder surgeries since then,” he shared.
After recovery, Robbie turned to weight training in college, but as he put it, “Life took over, etc., etc….and now I’m back.” These days, he balances his fitness with a love for cycling, hiking, and even working in the yard.
Finding New Motivation
Since joining No Excuses CrossFit, Robbie has experienced positive changes across the board. “I feel more motivated overall with everything, and I’ve also made some great new friends,” he said.
For Robbie, it’s not just about the workouts but about long-term health. “I’m looking for long-term health changes so I can be with and enjoy my family as long as possible,” he explained.
CrossFit Bingo and Junkyard Dogs
When asked about his favorite CrossFit moments, Robbie had plenty to choose from, but one stood out: No Excuses Bingo. “It’s been a lot of fun this year…everything from making a pyramid with my 8am crew to doing Junkyard Dog with Dave,” he laughed.
These lighthearted experiences highlight the sense of community that keeps Robbie coming back week after week.
Goals on the Horizon
Robbie’s next big adventure? Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. This ambitious goal reflects his drive to stay active and continue challenging himself both inside and outside the gym.
“CrossFit is About Community”
For those hesitant about starting CrossFit, Robbie offers simple but profound advice: “Keep coming…even if it is once a week. Getting to know everyone also helps. The better the relationships you build with everyone at the gym, the more it makes you want to go. CrossFit is good for fitness, but it is also about community.”
