Your lifespan is how long you live.

Your healthspan is the portion of your lifespan in which you are healthy.

Improving Lifespan
According to the CDC, most adults die from one of four causes:
cardiovascular/cerebrovascular disease, neurodegenerative disease, cancer, and accidents (CDC 2017).

While these things aren’t always controllable, you can influence the likelihood of contracting the disease, prolong the time before succumbing to them, and greatly decrease the likelihood of dying from them the first time you contract one.

Improving Healthspan
There are 8 things that influence the likelihood that you will die of cardiovascular/cerebrovascular disease, neurodegenerative disease, or cancer. These are:

Your genes

Contracting a disease

Having an accident

Your hormones

Your sleep

How you eat

How you exercise

How you manage stress.

While your genes aren’t controllable, the rest can be mitigated or controlled completely.
